25-year-old city man charged with non-fatal shooting
Person shot was 28-year-old Neptune resident
Asbury Park resident Malik A. Briggs, 25, was arrested Friday and charged with shooting a 28-year-old Neptune man outside of 1514 Monroe Ave. in Neptune Township in September, according to a prepared release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office [MCPO].
Neptune Township Police received a call man on Sept. 2, reporting a man had been shot on Monroe Avenue. When they arrived they found the victim with serious but not life-threatening injuries. He was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center, the release stated.
Following an investigation by the MCPO and Neptune Township Police Briggs was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, unlawful possession of a weapon and certain persons not to possess weapons, the release stated. He is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $500,000 cash-only bail, according to the release.
Despite the charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law, the release stated.
Asbury Park and Neptune police assisted the MCPO in making the arrest, the release stated.
