AP Out Front files first ELEC report 17 days late
Asbury council candidates say they won't spend more than $12,300
The AP Out Front council ticket has filed its contribution and expenditure report with the state Election Law Enforcement Commission [ELEC] 17 days past the state-imposed due date.
Reports of contributions and expenditures were due on April 15. The ticket filed its reports with ELEC on May 7.
The ticket’s members include Rosetta Johnson, Clevette Hill, Dorvil Gilles, Shonna Famularo and Stephen Williams.
They filed a declaration stating the ticket would not spend more than $12,300, meaning the group need not submit detailed records of expenditures and contributions to ELEC. The group’s treasurer, Stephania Warren, must notify ELEC of contributions or expenditures of more than $300 within 48 hours.
The other three tickets running for council — Forward Asbury Park, The A-Team and One Asbury — are required to file more detailed campaign finance reports because they intend to raise or have raised more than $12,300. Those three slates have filed their required reports.
AP Out Front disclosed contributions of over $300 from candidate Rosetta Johnson in a total amount of $1,275.50 which included an in-kind contribution of $375.50 for lawn signs. Johnson’s first contribution to the campaign was on March 12.
ELEC regulations require a campaign to file forms designating a campaign treasurer and bank account within 10 days of receipt of the first contribution or the making of the first expenditure. That report was due March 22 and was filed May 7.
The city council election is next Tuesday, May 14, and all five council seats are up for grabs. Voters will pick five from a field of 22 candidates. The winners then select a mayor from amongst themselves. The current council’s terms expire on June 30, with new four-year terms starting on July 1.
