Asbury Park Board of Education [BOE] member Kevin Michel resigned before last night’s meeting through a letter addressed to the nine-member board.
BOE president Gregory Hopson read the letter aloud at last night’s board meeting.
“Other commitments have become too great for me to be able to fulfill my requirements,” Hopson read from the letter. “I feel it best for me to make room for someone with the time and energy for this voluntary position. It was a great honor to serve the community in this capacity.”
The board is seeking community members to fill Michel’s spot, according to a prepared release from the district. Those who are interested should submit a letter of intent to the business administrator and board secretary Geoffrey Hastings.
Michel was a member of the board for two and one half years, according to district community relations official Christina Coloma. His term would have expired in November 2013, so a new appointee will serve for about one year.
