Brick resident dies after alleged robbery
Two Asbury residents, ages 17 and 19, are charged in incident
Two arrests have been made — one suspect a 17 year old juvenile — in connection with a robbery in the city early Saturday morning in which the victim later died after being taken to a hospital for treatment, according to Charles Webster, Public Information Officer for the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
At approximately 12:30 a.m., a 911 call was received by the Asbury Park Police Department reporting an individual was assaulted and possibly robbed, Webster said. The police responded to Asbury Park Gardens Apartments located at 1100 Atlantic Ave., he said.
The victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition but died Tuesday night, according to Webster. He has been identified as Thomas Sudano Jr. of Brick Township, he said. An autopsy is scheduled for today to determine the cause and manner of death.
Last night, Spencer Young, 19, Sewall Avenue, was arrested in connection with the robbery, Webster said. He was charged with one count of first-degree robbery with bail of $250,000, with no 10 percent option, set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge David Bauman, he said.
In addition, a 17-year-old Asbury Park male was charged later in the day with first degree robbery in connection with the incident, Webster said.
This incident is presently being investigated by the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office and the Asbury Park Police Department. Anyone who has information should call Det. Ed Hennely at 800-533-7443 or Det. Steve Ramseur at 732-775-2578.
