Candidates seeking a spot on the ballot for election to the Asbury Park council must bring their petitions to City Hall by 5 p.m. on Monday, May 11.
Each candidate must collect the signatures of 85 voters who are registered in Asbury Park, city clerk Steve Kay said.
A drawing for ballot positioning is tentatively set for Wednesday, March 20, Kay said. The drawing will be postponed if Kay needs more time to verify signatures.
All five spots on the council are up for grabs in this nonpartisan election. The incumbents’ term ends on June 30. A new term starts on July 1.
In Asbury Park, five council members are elected. Those council member then decide amongst themselves who will be mayor. The mayor in the past has been the highest vote-getter, but this is not a requirement.
So far, four tickets have announced candidacy — Forward Asbury Park, One Asbury, AP Out Front and the A-Team. Members of the A-Team — Duanne Small, Jim Keady, Remond Palmer, Nora Hyland and Daniel Harris — handed in their petitions yesterday, Kay said, and Kay has verified their five petitions.
