Citizens for Change PAC reveals funding sources
Committee supports A-Team candidates
A political action committee affiliated with the A-Team city council candidates has revealed three funding sources who donated a total of $7,000.
Darryl Hammary, the PAC’s treasurer, provided photocopies of three checks that showed the sources of the contributions, including the backs of the checks indicating they had been deposited. He also provided a copy of the bank statement showing checks in that amount deposited into the PAC’s bank account.
Kenneth Diamond and Laura Diamond of Morganville donated $2,500 on March 15, according to the checks. Granville Bozarth and Linda Bozarth of Vincentown donated $2,500 on March 20. Monmouth Entertainment Inc. of Manalapan donated $2,000 on March 20.
The PAC, Citizens for Change, used funds to purchase billboards and lawn signs which they donated to The A-Team, the council slate whose five members are Duanne Small, Nora Hyland, Daniel Harris, Jim Keady and Remond Palmer. Citizens for Change also paid people for Get Out the Vote [GOTV] efforts.
Citizens for Change filed a campaign finance report on April 15 and listed four contributions. One was from treasurer Hammary in the amount of $50. Three more were for $2,500 on March 21; $2,500 on March 25; and $2,000 on March 25. Instead of listing where these contributions came from, treasurer Hammary wrote “Information to Follow” on the filing.
Election Law Enforcement Commission [ELEC] officials have said this constitutes a violation of ELEC guidelines, but may be corrected with the provision of contributor information.
Hammary plans to amend the reports on Friday, he said. When asked why he had not yet made the amendments, he said he hadn’t had time. Hammary also said that an ELEC official told him there was no deadline for him to amend the report, unless he received a letter from ELEC asking him to do so.
The city council election is set for Tuesday, May 14. Voters will choose from a field of 22 candidates to fill all five council seats. The current council’s four-year terms end on June 30, with new terms beginning on July 1.
