First round of detailed campaign finance reports filed
A-Team council candidates still have not submitted report
Only one of the two tickets that seek to fill all five open seats in the November city council election has filed their first round of campaign finance reports that detail expenditures made through October 6.
The 29 day pre-election reports were due Oct. 6. The report requires any contributions made above $300 be disclosed.
The Asbury Together ticket filed by the deadline, according to the website of the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission [ELEC].
The A-Team for council ticket has not yet filed that report, an ELEC official confirmed Friday. Candidates on that ticket council candidates Duanne “King” Small, Derrick Grant, Rosetta Johnson and current Asbury Park Board of Education member Kenneth Saunders, Jr. Council candidates filed under a joint committee.
Saunders, who is listed as the campaign’s treasurer, did not return the Sun’s calls for comment as to if or when the campaign would file the report.
Palmer, who is the A-Team ticket’s mayoral candidate, filed a single candidate committee report but has not filed a detailed expenditure report, an ELEC official confirmed Friday.
“I don’t handle the [campaign] finances but I am sure we are going to file,” Palmer said Wednesday. He was unable to say when the report would be filed.
Incumbent Mayor Myra Campbell, who seeks re-election as the city’s mayor, filed a form stating she would not raise or spend more than $4,500, which eliminates the requirement to file a detailed report by the Oct. 6 deadline.
Mayoral candidate Harold Suggs is not listed as filing any reports, including the initial form required after contributions are received or expenditures made.
Candidates on the Asbury Together ticket are Incumbent Council members Amy Quinn and John Moor, and newcomers Joseph Woerner, Jesse “Coach K” Kendle and Barbara “Yvonne” Clayton. Their joint candidate committee reports total receipts of $16,374.24, which includes in-kind contributions and loans. Expenditures of $4739.61 were reported. The committee’s closing balance for the reporting period is $11,634.63.
Those contributing more than $300 to Asbury Together are Sean Kean of Belmar with a contribution of $1000; Eleonore Kaymakcian with a contribution of $1,000; Provincetown Nautical Realty Corp. of Provincetown, Mass., with a contribution of $1000; Edward Farro, Jr. of Asbury Park with a contribution of $1000; Daniel Weiss of Asbury Park with a contribution of $500; Sara Anne Towery of Asbury Park with a contribution of $500; H. Robb Levinsky of Neptune with a contribution of $500; Laura Petrovich-Cheney of Asbury Park with a contribution of $500; G.T.J.M. Corp. of Asbury Park with a contribution of $500; and Kenneth Roth of Asbury Park with a contribution of $420.
Asbury Together candidate John Moor loaned the campaign $1,000. Payments listed in the expenditure portion of the report include a payment of $1,000 made to Meredith DeMarco, of Bradley Beach, for a consulting fee; two payments of $900 to McLain Studios in Asbury Park for lawn signs; a $500 payment to Sun parent paper triCityNews for advertising; and a $300 payment to a Trenton-based research firm. The Asbury Together candidates did not report opening their own individual campaign accounts.
The next reports detailing receipts and expenditures are due Oct. 24.
The election is November 4. All five seats on the council are up for four-year terms, eight candidates are vying for four council member positions. Four individuals are running to be mayor. It is the first time in the city’s history the public will directly elect their mayor.
