Johnny Mac’s expansion will take Bistro Olé space
Mary Mac's to use both floors of the building, rooftop area
Now that Main Street restaurant Bistro Olé has closed, Johnny Mac’s House of Spirits owner John McGillion will use the area to increase the restaurant space of Mary Mac’s, one of the new businesses included in plans for a large-scale expansion of Johnny Mac’s.
Initial renderings of the complex showed new bar and restaurant Mary Mac’s would occupy the top floor of the Bistro Olé building, which McGillion already owns, with Bistro Olé still in place on the first floor and Mary Mac taking up the second floor and a rooftop area. Now, Mary Mac will take up the ground, second and rooftop level [shown in above rendering at the bottom left corner.]
“We’re digging it out now and it is going to be part of the complex,” said McGillion.
Workers are excavating an additional five feet of earth in the basement of the building and underpinning the foundation for support so that the larger basement level can accommodate storage and bathroom facilities, he said.
The interior of Mary Mac’s, named after McGillion’s wife, will incorporate both British and Irish styles of decor with carpeting and chandeliers for a decidedly different look than Johnny Mac’s or McGillion’s other restaurant across town in the waterfront area, Kim Marie’s.
“It’s going to blend into the setting of what’s going to be there, we’re excited about it,” he said.
The expansion will see Mary Mac’s and Johnny Mac’s joined by a beer garden and mezzanine with outdoor tables and seating in what is now the parking lot. McGillion will build additional third and fourth floors onto the buildings in the rear of the parking lot for weddings and events.
The construction is scheduled for four phases and is slated for full completion by July 2018.
McGillion additionally owns Cameo Bar on Main Street and several bars in New York.
