Musical Heritage Foundation to host fundraiser for Hope Academy
Funds will further assist charter school's music program
The Asbury Park Musical Heritage Foundation, in collaboration with Lakehouse Music Academy, is set to host a fundraiser in continued support of the new music program at Hope Academy Charter School, according to a news release from event organizers.
“Let the Music Play: Change a Child’s Life” takes place Saturday, Nov. 15 from 7:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. at the 5th Avenue Pavilion in Asbury Park.
The music program is part of the foundation’s signature youth initiative. The initiative’s mission is to provide underprivileged youth in the Asbury Park area with access to quality music instruction.
The event includes a performance by the Lakehouse Music Academy All-Star Staff Band, free beer and wine, lite fare provided by local restaurateur Marilyn Schlossbach, a dessert bar featuring pastries from top local bakeries and sweet shops, auction and prizes.
Hope Academy is a local K-8 charter school that emphasizes a hands-on learning philosophy and a strong focus on academic success, enrichment and civic engagement. The new music initiative at the school was successfully rolled out in early September with instruction provided by professional musicians from Lakehouse Music Academy, a local progressive music school committed to the development of musical skills among students of all ages.
The initiative builds upon the success of a smaller project Hope Academy carried out in partnership with Lakehouse during the summer of 2013. With funding secured for the music program’s initiation, new goals have been set to further sustain the in-class instrumental and vocal music program at the school and broaden opportunities for attendance through their new after-school program, Hope Academy English as a Second Language. This after school program will promote small-group instruction, as well as create a venue for performances and special events. Additionally, the after school component addresses an important concern in the community: keeping kids safe and engaged during those hours when they are most at risk.
Tickets are $50 each for regular admission; a limited number of half priced tickets are available to those who can also volunteer at the event. Click here to purchase tickets or donate to the event.
