A 20 year old Asbury Park man was shot and killed in the city on Friday night in an incident involving “multiple shots fired,” Assistant Monmouth County Prosecutor Marc LeMieux said today.

Tyrell Howard, Asbury Park Village, was hit by gunfire at approximately 10:16 p.m., while he was outside on Washington Avenue, said LeMieux.

Howard was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, where he was pronounced dead, he said.

There is “no evidence at this time that the incident is gang-related or gang-afilliated,” LeMieux said.

The medical examiner still needs to conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death, he said. LeMieux declined to state what part of Howard’s body was hit by the gunfire.
