A fire broke out on the 1000 block of Sewall Avenue in Asbury Park Wednesday evening.
Asbury Park firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 9:30 p.m. When they arrived on the scene, a vacant house on the block was heavily engulfed in flames, said Asbury Park Fire Chief Kevin Keddy.
Firefighters from Asbury Park, a rapid fire intervention company and ladder company from Neptune Township, and an ambulance from Ocean Grove responded to the scene, he said.
A house on located in the rear of the property occupied by renters was untouched.
The landlord of the property was on the site working to restore heat to the rear structure late. Workers from New Jersey Natural Gas had stopped service to the main structure after the fire erupted, which had affected service to the rear building, Keddy said.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, Keddy said.
Firefighters left the scene just after 11:30 p.m.
