An Asbury Park woman has been accused of soliciting prostitution after a car she and a Toms River man were riding in was stopped at the Asbury Park traffic circle.

Ocean Township police observed a vehicle travelling with a malfunctioning tail light and signaled the car to stop, according to a release from township police. During the stop, Det. Michael Melody observed the front seat passenger throw something out of the window.

An investigation during the stop led police to believe the driver of the vehicle, Kenneth Melson, 67, had solicited sex in exchange for money from his passenger, Kahajanee Reevey, 20, at a local motel, the release stated.

The two were placed under arrest. Melson was charged with solicitation for prostitution and was issued two motor vehicle summonses.

Reevey was charged with promoting prostitution and was issued a summons for littering.

Both subjects were released on complaint summonses to await a future court hearing.

The stop occurred at approximately 3:35 p.m. Tuesday. Melody was the arresting officer.
