No Fee Increase But Changes Include New License-Plate Recognition System, Pay-by-Plate Parking, Virtual Permits, & Updated Zone
City officials have announced changes ahead of the 2019 permit parking season.
Among them will be the launch of a new license-plate recognition system aimed at easing parking issues in the 1.4 square mile community.
But what motorists won’t find is an increase in fees, officials said.
The system will allow for the transition to a pay-by-plate and virtual permit parking program; meaning no more entering parking space numbers. Instead motorists will be able to move their vehicles to different spots within a parking zone during their purchased time.
The parking pay stations and mobile parking app will syncs to the parking enforcement system, allowing parking enforcement officers to use the new system in verifying all purchases and valid permits.
Also gone will be the need for hang tags or decals.
In the end, the system will provide better data for more informed policy changes, including parking availability and turnover.
There’s also an update to the permit parking zones.
New permits go on sale Jan 2 but enforcement will not begin until Feb 1, officials said. Until then 2018 hang tags will be honored.
Below are details from the City on all the 2019 parking updates:
Transition to Pay-by-Plate Public Parking
The transition to pay-by-plate public parking will occur in early 2019. Alpha numeric keyboards will be installed on all parking pay stations in December 2018. Pay stations, the mobile parking app, and signage will be updated as the roll out progresses. Parkers can save their license plate for instant use in the existing mobile parking app, which can be downloaded at asburyparkapp.com, or in myparkingreceipts.com for use at the parking pay stations. Virtual Parking Permit Program for 2019
Since the permits will be virtual, there will no longer be a need to visit the Parking Office to pick up parking permits. Permit applications will be processed through the permit parking online portal [thepermitportal.com].
Applicants will be able to register, upload documents, pay for, and renew parking permits online. Once credit card purchase is approved, virtual permits will be activated and permit holders can begin to park in permitted areas immediately. An online transaction fee of 3 percent will be added to the total.
Cash, check and credit payments still can be made via the Parking Office, located at 1201 Springwood Ave, Unit 106.
Requirements: Residents and employees should take note of eligibility changes. Review online and/or by visiting the Parking Office. Requirements can be found at cityofasburypark.com/parking.
Fees: While there are no fee changes, a quarterly employee permit will be available. Those who work in the City will have the option of purchasing a $40/quarter, 5-day employee permit or a $60/quarter, 7-day permit. The quarters run from Jan 1 to March 31, April 1 to June 30, July 1 to Sept 30, and Oct 1 to Dec 31.
Bangs Avenue Parking Garage: Renewal applications will be available Dec 3 for Zone 4 residents who currently have a Bangs Avenue Garage parking permit. Renewal applications will be accepted through Dec 14, with the remaining spaces available starting Jan 2.
