$25k reward offered for info on cop stabbing
Officer was struck in the face with a sharp object earlier this month
A $25,000 reward is being offered to help find the person who stabbed Asbury Park police Lt. David DeSane.
On Oct. 6, Lt. David DeSane was stabbed when he stopped to confront two individuals behind an abandoned property in the area of 1248 Washington Avenue, Acting Police Chief Anthony Salerno previously told the Sun.
A struggle ensued with one subject and DeSane was cut above the eye after he was struck by the other subject, a teenager, with a sharp object believed to be knife, Salerno said. Both subjects then fled on foot.
He had been en route to meet other officers he was training and wearing a full uniform at the time, Salerno said.
DeSane suffered an injury to one ankle and received stitches in the area of the stab wound, said Officer Michael Casey, a spokesman for the department.
He has since recovered and is back on full-duty, Casey said.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Asbury Park police Det. Daniel Kowalsuk at 732-775-2578. All callers will remain anonymous.
The New Jersey State Policemen’s Benefit Association had initially offered $20,000 for information leading to the individual’s arrest and conviction. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office kicked in another $5,000, which brought the combined reward total to $25,000, Casey said.
DeSane’s injury took place 11 days after Asbury Park police Officer Carl Christie suffered lacerations to his right wrist and one of his fingers in a separate incident that took place on Main Street.
The individual responsible for Christie’s injury was arrested shortly after the incident took place. Christie has not yet resumed work, Casey said.
