Porta, Brickwall owners to open NJ’s first vegan restaurant with liquor license
Eatery to welcome 'everyone with a desire to eat and drink well'
The owners of popular Asbury restaurants Brickwall and Porta will open a new vegan restaurant called Goldie’s on Cookman Avenue this summer.
The group received approval at the April 3 council meeting for extension of the Brickwall’s liquor license, which also covers the adjoining Annex bar.
This will make Goldie’s the only vegan restaurant with a liquor license in the state, said Fredrica Vilardi, who works at Knockout, the branding firm that owns all four restaurants.
Goldie’s will be located adjacent to the Annex inside the 550 Cookman building. A door will connect Goldie’s and the Annex. The Brickwall and the Annex are located at 522 Cookman Ave.
The restaurant will serve “higher-end” vegan food, said Vilardi.
Goldie’s will offer a cocktail menu with “very simple things done in a beautiful way, using simple ingredients to highlight the beauty,” Vilardi said. They will be available virgin or with specially curated alcohol.
“Goldie’s isn’t about sticking its nose up to non-vegans, and it’s not interested in preaching,” the restaurant’s mission statement reads, “it welcomes everyone with a desire to eat and drink well.”
Pending permits and inspections, the restaurant should be open by early summer.
