High school wrestling champ honored by board of ed.
Announces he'll play football at Wesley College
The board of education honored an outstanding athlete last night when they presented Domingo Perez [pictured above, second from left] with an award for his achievements in wrestling.
Perez placed first in the Shore Conference for wrestling this season, and took fourth place in the region, Superintendent Denise Lowe [pictured, far right] said.
His coach, Kevin Ickles [pictured, far left], was present to talk about his accomplishments. When discussing a match with Domingo, he said, the high school senior told him, “I don’t want to talk about it anymore, I want to do it.”
“Domingo did a lot of winning this past season,” Ickles said. “I heard once that adversity introduces a man to himself. I think that’s a very poignant thing. Anyone can win with grace, but the times we reveal ourselves are the times of adversity.”
Doming said he was “very appreciative” of the award.
“I drove toward a bigger picture of setting an example for young people in the school,” he said. “I couldn’t have had better supprt than I had. The school as a whole pushed me to get to my goals. I was happy where I ended up.”
Domingo has been visiting colleges and has decided to attend Wesley College in Dover, Del., to play football. He received a scholarship package allowing him to afford the school, he said.
