City-wide yard sale raises $3,000+ for animal rescue
Wag On Inn, Rescue Ridge benefit
The city-wide yard sale held last weekend raised more than $3,000 for animal rescue, organizer Sonja O’Brien said today.
Thanks to donations from yard sale participants, $1,424 was raised for Wag On Inn and $1,771 was raised for Rescue Ridge, with more donations on the way, O’Brien said. Both animal rescue groups picked up the funds on Sunday, along with donated pet food, sheets, blankets, pet carreirs and accessories.
“They were thrilled to receive the much-needed funds and supplies,” O’Brien [pictured] said.
Both organizations received much demand due to Hurricane Sandy, which caused hundreds of animals to become lost or homeless, O’Brien said.
“What a great day for the animals, as well as the Asbury Park shoppers from the surrounding towns,” O’Brien said.
Participants in the yard sale were asked to donate 10 percent of the proceeds, but many donated 100 percent of the money they made, O’Brien said.
O’Brien is a resident of Asbury Park. She organizes the city-wide yard sales independently, and this is the third such event that she has helmed.
