A local man was charged with attempted murder and related weapons offenses for the March shooting of a man in Neptune Township, acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni has announced.
Eli Dennis, 23, of Washington Avenue in Asbury Park, was charged on Friday with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon, according to a prepared release from the Prosecutor’s Office.
Dennis is currently being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, Freehold Township, on $750,000 bail with no 10-percent option, set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Francis J. Vernoia, according to the release. Vernoia also order that Dennis have no contact with the victim as a condition of the bail.
The charges stem from an incident on March 23, when Neptune Township police responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls around 8:58 p.m., according to the release. Callers reported having heard shots fired in the area of George Street and Monroe Avenue. Police arrived on the scene to find a 22-year-old man lying on the ground on George Street near the Dumpsters behind Citi Deli and Grocery, with multiple gunshot wounds to his body, according to the release.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed to be innocent unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Jennifer Lipp.
