Just over six months after Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey Shore, Langosta Lounge is reopening soon.
Owner Marilyn Schlossbach [pictured above during construction in March] was in the process of expanding her businesses in the Asbury Park Boardwalk’s Second Avenue Pavilion when Hurricane Sandy devastated the Jersey Shore. Facing the myriad of challenges associated with storm recovery and clean-up, Schlossbach’s colleagues, patrons and friends showed their support of Langosta Lounge via a grassroots GoFundMe campaign.
Over the past several months, contributors’ funds have gone to purchase chairs, a new fish tank, re-claimed wood from a storm-damaged home in Brielle, and a lobster-inspired piece of art work that is made from Sandy storm debris. All was used in the renovation of Langosta Lounge and will keep in the tradition of the eclectic, vacation-inspired décor for which the oceanfront bar and restaurant is known.
Langosta Lounge, first opened on the Asbury Park Boardwalk in 2008 and has been closed since Hurricane Sandy hit the Jersey Shore in October 2012. Since the storm, Langosta Lounge has received a facelift and Schlossbach’s other Second Avenue Pavilion businesses are seeing changes, too.
Prior to Hurricane Sandy, the restaurateur also operated Lightly Salted Surf Shop and Pop’s Garage, a more casual eatery, adjacent to Langosta Lounge. All three businesses are owned by Schlossbach and her partners.
Langosta Lounge has been reconfigured with a larger bar, a larger stage in the rear and lounge seating for people watching live musical performances.
A new bar, Asbury Park Yacht Club, will open in the space where Lightly Salted and Pop’s Garage previously were. In the storefront between Langosta Lounge and the Asbury Park Yacht Club, Schlossbach will open Libby’s Beach Shack, a casual seafood fast-food restaurant, during the day in the summer. At night and in the off-season, Libby’s will function as a lounge.
Pop’s Garage will move over to the storefront that housed Siculiano’s Pizza until its closed last summer. With these changes, Schlossbach will be operating most of the Third Avenue pavilion businesses, except for the Silverball Pinball Museum.
Schlossbach currently owns four restaurants on the Jersey Shore: Labrador Lounge, a vacation hot spot in Normandy Beach; Pop’s Garage, an authentic Mexican eatery in and Shrewsbury; Langosta Lounge on the Asbury Park Boardwalk; and Dauphin Grille located in the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel in Asbury.
