Police arrested a man yesterday after receiving a call of shots fired in the 100 block of Atkins Avenue, between Mattison and Springwood avenues, Asbury Park Police Captain Anthony Salerno said.

The police received a call that shots were fired at 9 a.m., Salerno said. Police responded and found a victim who had been struck, and First Aid responders took the victim to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The 18-year-old Asbury Park resident is now in stable condition, Salerno said.

Following yesterday’s investigation into the incident, police identified Antonio Pabon, 19, as a suspect, and executed a search warrant on his home at 1117 Sunset Ave.

Pabon was arrested in the 1300 block of Langford Street, between Sunset and Fifth avenues, after a short foot pursuit, Salerno said. He was charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, obstruction of government, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana under 50 grams.

Salerno would not comment on the results of the search at Pabon’s home. He also would not comment on whether there was any narcotics or gang-related activity between the suspect and the victim.

Pabon was taken to the Monmouth County Correctional Institution. A superior court judge set his bail at $300,000 with no 10-percent option. The Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office assisted the Asbury Park Police Department with the investigation.
