Asbury man sentenced for gun possession, other charges
Charges stem from May 2011 incident
An Asbury Park man was sentenced today to 18 years in state prison after he was found guilty last month of weapons offenses, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced in a prepared release.
From the release:
Dawud Greene, 27, was sentenced Friday to 15 years in a New Jersey state prison by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge John T. Mullaney Jr., J.S.C. Greene was convicted by a jury on April 4, 2013, after a seven-day trial, on charges of second-degree Certain Persons Not to Have Weapons. Pursuant to the “Graves Act,” Greene must serve seven years and six months before he will be eligible for release on parole. Greene was sentenced to an extended term based on his prior history and applicable aggravating factors.
Greene was also sentenced to a consecutive three-year term in a New Jersey state prison for violating his terms of probation by committing this offense.
Testimony at the trial revealed a witness observed Greene in the area of Washington Village in Asbury Park on the morning of May 20, 2011, placing a handgun into a vehicle primarily used by the defendant. A search of the vehicle by the Asbury Park Police Department recovered a loaded 9-millimeter semi-automatic handgun. Greene was previously convicted of crimes making it unlawful for him to possess a handgun in the state of New Jersey.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutors Danielle Zansuccki and Tara Wilson. Mr. Greene is represented by Raymond Santiago, Esq., of Freehold.
