New bar in Convention Hall to focus on craft beers
Anchor's Bend moves into Aqua space
Madison Marquette is operating two bars inside Convention Hall this summer — the Beach Bar and the Anchor’s Bend.
The Anchor’s Bend is a new concept and will occupy the northern edge of Convention Hall, as well as a portion of the Grand Arcade. It will be located in the spot Aqua took up last summer.
The new bar will have an emphasis on craft beers, especially from New Jersey, with a “relaxed locals feel,” said general manager James Douglas. The Beach Bar continues to operate in its location on the southern end of Convention Hall.
Chris Estelle is acting as executive chef for both bars, although the menus for each will be different. The Beach Bar will serve high-end products including salads, tacos, lobster rolls and a hot dog with kimchi on the side.
At the Anchor’s Bend, the focus will be on foods that pair well with beer, such as sliders with pretzel rolls, homemade potato chips and homemade ketchup.
The Beach Bar has been in operation for about five years, although Manhattan bar Max Fish partnered with the Beach Bar last summer. The Beach Bar will return to the aesthetic it used prior to the Max Fish collaboration, the managers said. Couches are being ordered, as well as high-top tables.
Aqua operated on the north side of Convention Hall from June 2010 through last year. Mike Perry and Nick Castaldo have signed on as assistant managers of the bars, Douglas said.
The Beach Bar and the Anchor’s Bend are open from noon until 2 a.m. Thursday through Sunday this week. Starting June 13, they will be open seven days a week.
