The HBO drama “Boardwalk Empire” will not be coming to Asbury Park this summer.

In April, the cable network was in talks with the city and boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette about using the city’s waterfront for filming.

The producers had brought renderings of set designs for episodes of the series that showed the Asbury Park boardwalk, said commerce and economic development director Thomas Gilmour.

“We were all excited it was going to happen here, but three weeks to a month ago we followed up and they had wrote the boardwalk scenes out of the scrips,” said Gilmour.

The city lost “an amazing economic boost,” Gilmour said, which would have included a production crew of over 200 people for the filming.

“So it was a blow, for sure,” he said.

The show stars Steve Buscemi [at top] as Enoch “Nucky” Thompson, an Atlantic City gangster. Martin Scorsese is the executive producer.
