25th annual Jazzfest will not be held this June
Annual event may be moved to fall or skipped this year
The City of Asbury Park announced today that the 25th Annual Jazz Festival has been postponed.
“Due to the extensive recovery efforts after Sandy required to restore the city, management did not have sufficient time to plan, secure entertainment and raise sponsorship dollars to successfuly host the 2013 Asbury Park Jazz Festival,” said commerce and economic development director Thomas Gilmour in an email.
“By the time it was time to start working on it, it was already too late,” Gilmour said. “It was difficult because all of the musicians had already been booked.”
City officials are considering options to either hold the event in the fall or skip 2013 entirely. This would move the anniversary to the last weekend in June of 2014.
“We certainly intend to do the 25th anniversary,” said Gilmour.
Most of the money to fund the annual event comes from sponsorship, but by the time sponsors were contacted they had already given funds to Sandy relief organizations, Gilmour said.
“We were competing against Sandy for sponsorship money,” he said.
