The Sun’s City Council Preview — Aug. 7, 2013
On agenda: city manager termination agreement, downtown beer garden
The city council is scheduled to meet tonight in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Among the items on the agenda for the regular meeting is a resolution to approve a separation agreement with city manager Terence Reidy. That resolution is not currently available. At its last meeting, the council voted 3-2 to advertise for applicants to fill the position. Reidy is still in the post.
Also on the regular meeting agenda is a public hearing on an ordinance to allow eating and drinking on the second floor of a building at the corner of Lake Avenue and Press Plaza. Restaurateur Andy Ivanov, owner of Pilsener Haus in Hoboken and Radegast in Brooklyn, has proposed a restaurant on the site at 527 Lake Ave., with a rooftop beer garden on the second floor. After the hearing, the council may take action on the ordinance, which amends the central business district redevelopment plan.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Other items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting include:
• An application for a person-to-person transfer of Old Man Rafferty’s liquor license.
• Resolutions to amend both the 2013 city budget and temporary budget.
• Decisions on two bids for Regional Contribution Agreement funds to be used at 536 Prospect Ave. and 652 ½ Church St.
• A presentation on concessions to provide private surf lessons on the 8th Avenue beach.
• An application for a new event called “Strengthening Families.”
• An application to hold a carnival.
• A vote on the city’s new hire process.
• A vote on the request for proposals to seek vendors to update the city website.
In executive session, the council will discuss contract negotiations for a phase two arbitration decision between the city and Asbury Partners and concessions to provide private surf lessons. They will also discuss a personnel issue relating to the city manager position.
