City approves agreement to sever ties with Reidy
City manager's final day would be Oct. 31
The city council voted last night to enter into a separation agreement with City Manager Terence Reidy [above].
The agreement “prescribes the terms and conditions under which Mr. Reidy will separate from his employment with the city effective October 31,” said City Attorney Frederick Raffetto.
The vote to enter into the agreement was 3-1. Mayor Myra Campbell, along with council members Amy Quinn and John Moor, voted yes while Councilwoman Susan Henderson voted no. Councilman John Loffredo was not in attendance.
Under the agreement, which Reidy has 21 days to sign, he will work through the end of October and be compensated for any unused vacation time.
Reidy will not remain on the city’s health insurance plan after his final date of employment, according to the agreement. He is also required to direct any further inquiries about his employment to the city’s human resource officer.
Reidy took the position of city manager ten years ago in 2003. He had previously been the city manager of Montclair.
Both the city manager and chief municipal finance officer positions have been advertised, Raffetto said. Applicants have until September 4 to submit resumes.
The council discussed whether to appoint a review committee to initially screen the resumes to narrow the number of applicants considered, or if each council member would review all of the resumes individually and make recommendations.
The council did not make a final decision on the procedure to review the resumes. The issue will be placed on the agenda for the next council meeting on August 21.
Although the city is still in need of a purchasing agent, advertising for the position is being held off until resumes have been submitted for the city manager and CMFO positions as applicants for those positions may also have certifications as a purchasing agent.
