Two weeks after a falling slab of concrete shut the outdoor promenades at Convention Hall, the Beach Bar in the south promenade reopened on late Saturday afternoon.

The north and east side promenades remain closed. The twelve foot by six foot slab fell on the north side, missing a baby shower that was scheduled less than an hour later.

At the Beach Bar — known for its commanding beach view — repairs recommended by structural engineers to ensure safety were completed on Saturday, according to Carrie Turner, director of retail for Madison Marquette, which owns the building.

The concrete slab fell in the outdoor area of the Anchors Bend bar on August 4. As a precaution, Madison Marquette closed all the outdoor promenades until structural engineers could inspect the areas.
