Vehicle stop leads to weapons charges in Asbury
Arrests made by city police and Prosecutor's Office
A search subsequent to a motor vehicle stop led to the arrest of three men and two women in Asbury Park on Saturday night on various weapons charges, according to a statement from Det. Lt. David DeSane of the Asbury Park Police Department.
At approximately 10:30 p.m., the Street Crime Unit of the Asbury Park Police Department, along with detectives from the Gang Task Force in the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, effected a motor vehicle stop in the 1100 block of Bond Street, DeSane said.
“Based on the actions and demeanor of the occupants of the suspect vehicle they were asked to step out. Two handguns, a .380 semi-automatic and a 9mm semi-automatic, were subsequently located and seized,” he said. All occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest.
Arrested were Quinton Rush, 18, Neptune City, Brennan Bland, 21, Long Branch and Daniel Julio, 22, Long Branch, DeSane said. All were charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of hollow point ammunition and certain persons not to possess firearms, he said.
Bail for the three was set at $250,000 with no 10 percent option by Asbury Park Municipal Judge Daniel DiBenedetto, DeSane said. The suspects were transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute, Freehold, he said.
Also arrested were Michelle Major, 18, Howell Township and Marciyah Gill, 18, Freehold Boro, who were charged with two counts of unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of hollow point ammunition, DeSane said. Bail was set at $200,000 by Judge DiBenedetto for those two suspects, who were also transported to the Monmouth County Correctional Institute, he said.
“Members of the Asbury Park Street Crime Unit and the [Gang Task Force of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office] will be working together in an effort to ‘step up’ police presence in areas of the city known for criminal activity,” said DeSane. “These units have worked together for the past 20 years.”
