Where Music Lives expands Local Live! series
Brazilian singer-songwriter Manu Saggioro, local acts will play Friday
This Friday, the Asbury Musical Heritage Foundation [AMHF] will open their Local Live! doors to no-so-local singer-songwriter Manu Saggioro [shown at right] and violist Kimberly Foster at Where Music Lives on Cookman Avenue.
Where Music Lives is the performance and exhibition space of the AMHF. The space is used to bring music-based initiatives to the area, according to a press release from the AMHF. The space hosts lectures, exhibits, film showings and concerts.
Part of the mission of Where Music Lives is to “continue contributing to the city’s revitalization by securing Asbury Park as a true musical destination,” according to the AMHF website.
The Friday show dubbed “(Not so) Local Live!” runs as part of the AMHF’s Local Live! series, which highlights original performers from the New Jersey area, the website said.
For this performance, they have expanded their Local Live! invite to include Manu Saggioro, a Brazilian singer-songwriter, giving the show its not-so-local moniker. Saggioro will share the bill with N.J.-based violinist Kimberly Foster, as well as other local musical acts.
Saggioro blends a unique style of rock, traditional folk, and what she calls, “hillbilly” in her songwriting repertoire, the release said.
Saggioro hails from the municipality of Jau in the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil. A child of the 70s counterculture, Saggioro began her musical journey at the age of 17, the release said. By 2001, she had covered over 12 Brazilian states, learning style and interpretive composition methods that would take her through many musical journeys, including a 2006 tour through nine European countries.
That tour resulted in an invitation to become part of Jazzin’ Albarracín, a jazz festival in the historic city Albarracín, located in central Spain.
Also joining Saggioro will be Kimberly Foster, a violist known as “a deep, emotionally inspired composer,” according to the release. Foster has a multifaceted musical career as a performer, educator, entrepreneur and consultant.
A member of the Albany Symphony, Foster frequently performs as “a guest-artist-in-demand with New York’s preeminent chamber ensembles,” according to the release.
In addition to her busy performance schedule, Foster directs and instructs the Monmouth County String Studio in New Jersey, which offers music lessons, performances, lectures and workshops, according to their website.
Other musical acts will also take the stage before and after Saggioro and Foster.
The performances take place Friday, Sept. 13. At 8 p.m. There is a suggested donation of $10.
