On Friday, Sept. 27, representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services will hold an information session on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act.

Commonly referred to as the “Obamacare,” the measure is a federal healthcare overhaul whose proponents say will increase the coverage and affordability of health care in the United States.

Individuals can begin to sign up for coverage under the act on October 1.

Asbury Park was selected as one of 50 cities to begin to roll out the plan and sign individuals up for coverage, according to Mayor Myra Campbell.

The information session will be held at 10:00 a.m. in council chambers, located at One Municipal Plaza.
