BOE meeting cancelled due to lack of quorum
Is sixth meeting to be cancelled under same circumstances this year
Wednesday’s board of education meeting was cancelled when less than half of the board members showed up at the designated start time.
The meeting was schedule to start at 7 p.m. Board president Angela Ahbez-Anderson and board members Christian Hall, Felicia Simmons and Barbara Lesinki were present.
Ahbez-Anderson waited until 7:15 to announce the meeting would be cancelled due to a lack of quorum. It is the sixth meeting that has been cancelled under these circumstances this year.
Items on the agenda may be approved by the district’s state monitor, Carole K. Morris, according to board secretary Geoffrey Hastings.
The five board members who did not attend are board Vice-President Geneva Smallwood, Joseph Raines, Jr., Qzeena Taylor and Kenneth Saunders, Jr.
All of the required district employees and professionals were present at the meeting, including board solicitor Kim Belin, state monitor Carole K. Morris, business administrator and board secretary Geoffrey Hastings, director of special services William Shannon and director of curriculum and instruction Elford Rawls-Dill.
The Oct. 9 meeting has also been cancelled. The next meeting listed on the regular schedule is to take place Oct. 23, however, that meeting takes place the same week as the NJ School Boards Association convention. The district is in the process of polling the board to secure an alternate meeting date, according to Chanta L. Jackson, communications coordinator for the district.
