The body of a 58-year-old homeless man was found in the back seat of a car Sunday near the intersection of Memorial Drive and Munroe Avenue.

The Asbury Park Police Department received a call after noon reporting a man was sleeping in the back of a privately owned vehicle sitting in the lot of the Main Street Auto Repair shop located at 601 Memorial Dr, according to Capt. Anthony Salerno.

When police and paramedics arrived on the scene they found the man to be non-responsive.  He was pronounced dead on arrival and transported to the medical examiner’s office under the care of Dr. Joseph M. Schauer, Salerno said.

One of the special officers on the scene recognized the man and identified him as a homeless person. Police were unable to determine if the man had any next-of-kin. It was ruled a non-suspicious, natural death, he said.
