Asbury resident convicted of weapons charges
Due to previous conviction, man had been barred from carrying weapons
A city man was who had a previous conviction preventing him from possessing any weapons was convicted Wednesday on possession charges, according to a prepared release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
After a two-week long trial, a Monmouth County jury found Radavine Allah, also known as Robert Brown, 35, of Monroe Avenue, guilty of a second degree “certain persons not to have weapons” violation, the release stated.
On March 7, 2007, Allah was sitting in the front passenger’s seat of a parked car across the street from the city library at 507 First Ave. when Asbury Park police arrived on scene based on information received about activity in the area, according to the release.
A subsequent investigation found Allah in possession of a loaded Kel-Tec .32-caliber semi-automatic handgun wrapped in a knit hat tucked away inside a pocket, the release stated.
Allah was previously convicted of aggravated assault on a Police Officer in October of 2002. The conviction barred him from possessing a firearm, according to the release.
Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Richard W. English heard the case, which is being prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Margaret Koping. Robert J. Konzelmann, Howell, is Brown’s attorney.
Brown will be sentenced on Jan. 17, 2014. He faces 10 to 20 years in prison with the possibility of extended-term eligibility, with a period of parole ineligibility of one-third to one-half of the sentence imposed or 5 years, whichever proves greater, the release said.
