Kickstarter campaign gives organic market a boost
$25,000 fundraising goal reached Oct. 30
A Kickstarter crowd-funding campaign to bring a full-service organic grocery store to Asbury Park’s Main Street has been successful.
Cara Pescatore and Alex Mazzucca [above at the site], who own the From Seed to Sprout vegan cafe in Avon, set a fundraising goal of $25,000. That was reached by the Oct. 30 deadline and came in $37 dollars above the mark.
The two plan to open the Asbury location in a month or so, according to Mazzucca. Their market on Main Street, located on the block between Fourth and Fifth avenues, will follow suit with the restaurant in offering organic vegan products.
“We might have some local raw honey, but other than that it’ll be totally vegan and totally organic,” Mazzucca said.
The money that they gained from the campaign will help them purchase a refrigerator, freezer cases, shelves, places to store items and contribute to their first bulk order to stock the shelves. It will also be used to repave the driveway, which they hope to start on in the coming week, according to Mazzucca.
Market offerings will include organic fruits, vegetables, bulk grains and other dry goods, delicious prepared meals, local products, earth friendly cleaners and detergents, according to their Kickstarter campaign page.
They’ll also offer cooking classes, nutrition workshops and other lectures and events to inspire and educate the community, open to every demographic, the site states.
Kickstarter is one of the most popular crowdfunding campaign websites. Every fundraising campaign posted to Kickstarter must be a project that fits into one of 13 specific categories, like art, photography, fashion, food and film. The funding comes all-or-nothing, so if the goal set by the project creators is not met in time, none of the funds are realized.
