The Sun’s City Council preview — Nov. 26, 2013
On agenda: Holiday parking, Bond St. liquor license expansion
The city council is scheduled to meet tonight in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 5 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting include:
• A discussion on providing reduced rates for parking in the city through the holiday season.
• An application to expand the liquor license from Bond Street Bar, located at 208 Bond St., to include 639 Cookman Ave.
• A presentation on the 2013 Firefighter’s Grant Program by Fire Chief Kevin Keddy
• A presentation by Glenn Scotland, city redevelopment attorney, on the renewal of a 5-year tax exemption program.
• A presentation by Jesse Faasen, the city’s tax collector, on sewer billing.
• Several special event applications including one for an upcoming Mayor’s Ball fundraiser, one for the Chamber of Commerce Winter Ball event, the Rotary Club’s annual Polar Bear Plunge, an application to extend the liquor license at Johnny Mac’s House of Spirits into the parking lot for an event on Dec. 14, and an application for the VFW to conduct a raffle.
• An appointment to the Asbury Park Public Library’s Board of Trustees.
• A contract with the Visiting Nurse’s Association made available through grant funding.
• An amendment to a $2.1 million dollar bond resolution to refinance at a lower rate.
In executive session, the council will discuss several personnel issues, among them the city manager’s position, the recreation committee and annual appointments for professional services. They will also discuss several matters of litigation and contract negotiations for a subsequent waterfront redeveloper’s agreement.
