City’s shops celebrate Small Business Saturday
APVibe hosts a sidewalk sale, loyalty card holders earn double points
Nestled in between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is Small Business Saturday, when holiday shoppers are encouraged to “shop small” at local businesses instead of big name department stores and large chain stores.
Founded by American Express in 2010, Small Business Saturday takes place Saturday, Nov. 30 — the day after Black Friday. American Express customers who register an eligible American Express Card ahead of time and make a purchase of $10 or more will receive a $10 statement credit for shopping at qualifying small business.
Unique holiday gift items will be available in Asbury Park throughout the day from inside “Convention Mall” to along the streets of downtown for a sidewalk sale.
SIDEWALK SATURDAY
AP Vibe, downtown Asbury Park’s marketing campaign, are inviting holiday shoppers to forsake “numbered aisles” and “fluorescent lighting” and, instead, peruse the streets of the downtown out in the crisp November air, according to a release from the organization.
Several shops on Cookman, Bangs and Lake avenues will set up tables outside and many will offer in-store deals.
Participating shops are: The Showroom Cinema, Gallery 13, Eyes of the World, Foolish Ginger. Russo Music, Fetish, Shelter Home, Flying Saucers, Groovy Graveyard, Asbury Archeology, Robert Legere, Words!, Heaven and Art Antiques, Etc., The Paint Place, Glide Surf, Bands on a Budget, Confections of a Rock$tar, Fly Standards, Hot Sand, Fitness Lifestyle, Sweet Joey’s and Asbury Sparks Smoke Shop.

ASBURY FRESH WINTER POP-UP
As part of the downtown sidewalk sale, Asbury Fresh, downtown’s outdoor artisan summer market, will host a winter pop-up market in the old Russo Music/HoldFast Records space at 639 Cookman Ave. Vendors are expected to offer handcrafted jewelry, winter apparel, baked goods and vegan fare, according to a news release from event organizers.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
For registered users of the LOVE loyalty program, The Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce will issue double points on their Asbury Park LOVE Loyalty Card for purchases made at the following places: Posh Den, Hotel Tides, DJ’s Delights, Hot Sand and the Kula Café.
Consumers of the program are working towards a total of 7.500 points to earn a complimentary 2014 season beach pass.
