Convention Hall sprinklers in closed session, transfer of liquor license for beer garden in workshop session

The city council is scheduled to meet tonight in council chambers at City Hall. A closed executive session will start at 4 p.m., followed by a workshop session at 6 p.m. and a regular council meeting at 7 p.m.

Public participation takes place at the beginning of the regular meeting. Items on the agenda for both the workshop and regular meeting include:

• A review, and possible introduction, of a proposed ordinance to change the permitted hours for packaged alcohol sales in the city.

• A presentation by City Engineer Joe Cunha on New Jersey Transit bus shelters.

• An application to transfer the liquor license from Chico’s House of Jazz to Sackman Enterprises for a beer garden on Lake Avenue.

• An appointment to the Asbury Park Public Library’s Board of Trustees.

• A presentation by Glenn Scotland, city redevelopment attorney, on the renewal of a 5-year tax exemption program, and possible introduction of a resolution to renew the same program.

In executive session, the council will discuss several personnel issues, the city manager’s position and annual appointments for professional services. They will also discuss contract negotiations for a state mandated sprinkler system to be installed in Convention Hall, union contract negotiations with the International Association of Fire Fighters, and three matters of litigation pertaining to worker’s compensation cases.

The agendas for tonight’s meeting have not yet been posted to the city’s website and are subject to change.
