City man suffers gunshot wound, walks to fire station
Incident occurred around 1 a.m. Tuesday
A city man who suffered a nonfatal gunshot wound showed up at the Asbury Park Fire Department headquarters on Main Street Tuesday, according to a spokesman from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Around 1 a.m., a 20-year-old resident walked into the station, located on the northwest corner of Main Street and Asbury Avenue, and reported he had been shot, said Charles Webster, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office.
He was immediately transported to an area hospital where he was treated, Webster said. Webster could not confirm whether the man had been released.
Details on the location of the man’s injury are not available at this time, he said.
An investigation determined the shooting took place within the 700 block of Sewell Avenue [between Bond and Main streets] shortly before the man arrived at the station, Webster said.
Fire department headquarters is located one block north.
The incident is part of an ongoing investigation, Webster said. Anyone with information can contact Det. Edwin Hennelly at 1-800-533-7443 Det Edwin Hennelly.
