Registration open for 2014 Jersey Shore Tour de Cure
Ride kicks off in Asbury Park, raises funds for American Diabetes Assn
Cycling enthusiasts are being called by the American Diabetes Association to ride for a cause this September.
The Jersey Shore’s annual Tour de Cure is set to kick off in Asbury Park Saturday, Sept. 20, according to a press release issued by the association.
The Tour de Cure is a series of fund-raising cycling events held in 40 states nationwide to benefit the American Diabetes Association. The Tour is a ride — not a race — with routes designed for the occasional rider to the experienced cyclist. Distances range from 10 miles to 100 miles, the release stated.
Registration is now open for the Jersey Shore race, which starts Bradley Park located just across the street from Convention Hall. Extensive training information, plans and organized training rides to prepare for the distances are available to participants who register early, the release stated.
Each ride features support vehicles, rest stops with food to fuel the journey and volunteers to cheer riders on.
Approximately 600,000 adults, or more than 8% of New Jersey’s adult population, have been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes and may suffer from complications, including lower extremity amputation, end-stage renal disease, and blindness, the release stated. There is currently no cure for diabetes.
The Tour de Cure raises funds through registration fees and pledges collected by the cyclists. The event supports the nearly 26 million Americans living with diabetes and helps fund research to find a cure. Click here to register.
The American Diabetes Association funds research to prevent, cure and manage diabetes; delivers services to hundreds of communities; provides objective and credible information; and gives voice to those denied their rights because of diabetes. Founded in 1940, the mission of the Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.
