Two Asbury Park police officers remain unable to work after they suffered injuries in a car crash early Monday morning when their marked patrol car was hit by a 52-year-old city man who failed to yield to a stop sign, according to police.

Patrolmen Michael Boone and Francis Sangi were travelling south on Memorial Drive when Asbury Park resident Filipe Ramirez-Trejo allegedly neglected a stop sign at the corner of Munroe Avenue and hit the side of the vehicle Boone was driving, Asbury Park Police Capt. Marshawn Love confirmed.

The collision took place around 6:40 a.m.

Boone and Sangi were  transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center where they received treatment for their injuries, according to Capt. Anthony Salerno, who supervises the two officers.

They were later released and seen by city doctors but remain out of work due to the injuries they suffered in the crash, Salerno said.

Salerno declined to comment on the nature of their injuries for privacy reasons.

Ramirez-Trejo was not injured in the collision. He was issued a summons for failure to stop and yield before entering the intersection, Love confirmed.

Both the patrol vehicle and the silver SUV Ramirez-Trejo was driving were towed from the scene, Love confirmed.

Officer Anthony Butler investigated the incident.
