Dauphin Grille and Berkeley Bar close
Established music scene will shift over to Langosta, Asbury Yacht Club
European-style bistro Dauphin Grille and connecting Berkeley Bar, located in Asbury Park’s Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel, have closed.
“We love the hotel and we love the space but it is not who we are from a business standpoint,” said restaurant owner Marilyn Schlossbach.
Recent changes in the corporate management of the hotel provided Schlossbach and her business partners an opportunity to “part on a good note,” she said.
The music scene at the Berkeley Bar will relocate to Langosta Lounge, Schlossbach’s flagship Asbury Park restaurant located in the Second Avenue pavilion, according to Schlossbach. Langosta reopened with a larger stage after undergoing massive renovations due to damage from Hurricane Sandy. Schossbach said the Langosta stage area will see some redesign and the addition of lounge-style seating when musicians play. The Dauphin’s jazz showcase will have a Saturday early evening slot at Langosta.
Acts will also play at the Asbury Park Yacht Club, also located in the Second Avenue pavilion, which Schlossbach and her business partners continue to build as a venue on the Asbury Park music scene, she said.
Peter Mantas will still handle booking live acts and restaurant staff of the Berkeley have moved to work in Schlossbach’s other restaurants in Asbury Park and the surrounding area, she said.
Along with operating both the Dauphin Grille and the Berkeley Bar in the hotel, Schlossbach’s Kitchens Hospitality Group was the exclusive caterer of the hotel, according to the Dauphine Grille website. The catering business will continue to fulfill their commitments at the hotel but will no longer be strictly committed to working events at the hotel and will be partnering with other venues, Schlossbach said.
“This gives us an opportunity to focus on a bigger picture, not just on that location,” she said.
Schlossbach also also owns Second Avenue Pavilion businesses Lightly Salted Surf Mercado store, Libby’s Beach Shack, a casual seafood fast-food restaurant, and Pop’s Garage, an authentic Mexican restaurant with an American restaurant feel.
“We’re moving on to better projects, and we can’t do that if we keep holding on,” she said.
