The former Cooper Creation jewelry store in Asbury Park is undergoing renovation and will soon reopen as a cold submarine sandwich shop.

Vintage Subs will be an authentic, Jersey-style sub shop with a retro-style interior decor, complete with checkerboard floor and pop culture memorabilia from bygone eras, according to owner Nick Evangelista, who is still in the process of putting the interior together.

The shop, located on Cookman Avenue near the intersection of Main Street, will offer reasonable priced cold subs via counter pick-up or delivery service to the nearby area and beach.

“Either grab a quick bite here or take it out,” he said.

Evangelista previously owned the Sandy Hook Cottage bed and breakfast in Highlands for 10 years before closing it in 2011 and has since moved to the Asbury Park area. While growing up in Jersey City, there was always a corner store that made great subs, he said, which is exactly what he hopes to bring to the city.

“Just a great place to get a great sub,” he said. “We’re doing old school neighborhood subs, because, it’s something that, after having lived here for quite a while, nobody does that around here.”

He hopes to have the doors open by the end of April.
