Twenty one year old charged in 2012 shooting outside Cameo
Second gunman remains at large, prosecutor says
A twenty one year old Neptune City man has been arrested in connection with a shooting outside the Cameo Bar on Main Street in 2012, in which two men in a parked car sustained multiple gunshot wounds, according to a news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Tyrice L. Berry is charged with two counts of first degree Attempted Murder and second degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, the release stated. He is being held on $600,000 cash only bail, as set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Richard W. English.
A second gunman remains at large, according to the release.
The Cameo Bar has since changed ownership, with John McGillion purchasing it last year. McGillion also owns Johnny Mac House of Spirits on Main Street and Kim Marie’s Drink Away on Kingsley Street.
On October 19, 2012, at approximately 1:23 a.m., officers from the Asbury Park Police Department were in the vicinity of Main Street and Fifth Avenue when they heard the shots fired outside of the Cameo nearby, the release stated. Upon arrival, police identified a 30-year-old male and a 28-year-old male, who had both sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where they received treatment for their injuries.

Detectives from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office and the Asbury Park Police Department arrested and charged a Neptune City man Friday in connection with an October 19, 2012, shooting incident outside of the Cameo bar on Main Street in Asbury Park, announced Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.
Tyrice L. Berry, 21, of Neptune City, is charged with two counts of first degree Attempted Murder and second degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
Berry is being held on $600,000 cash only bail, as set by Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Richard W. English, J.S.C.
On October 19, 2012, at approximately 1:23 a.m., officers from the Asbury Park Police Department were in the area of Main Street and Fifth Avenue when they heard and then responded to shots fired on Main Street outside of the Cameo Bar, located at 1217 Main Street. Upon arrival, police identified a 30-year-old male and a 28-year-old male, who had both sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Both men were transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where they received treatment for their injuries.
Asbury Park Police and the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office immediately launched an investigation into the incident. During the course of the investigation, police determined the victims were seated in a parked vehicle when they were fired upon by two individuals, one of which was identified as Berry.
The investigation remains active and ongoing as police continue to identify the second shooter. If convicted of the first degree crimes of Attempted Murder, the maximum potential custodial sentence is a State Prison term of up to 20 years on both counts, subject to the provisions of the “No Early Release Act” (NERA) requiring him to serve 85 percent of the sentence imposed before becoming eligible for release on parole. He would also be under parole supervision for five years following his release from state prison.
If convicted of second degree Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, the maximum potential custodial sentence is a State Prison term of 10 years, and pursuant to the “Graves Act” requiring a mandatory period of parole ineligibility of one half of the custodial sentence imposed, or 42 months, whichever is greater.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Christopher Decker, of the Office’s Major Crimes Bureau.
