Asbury Park resident Jermaine Huntley, 28, was shot outside of a home on the 1200 block of Washington Avenue Thursday morning.

Asbury Park Police received a call at 9:55 a.m. reporting someone had been shot in the area. After he was shot, Huntley was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center by an independent party where he was pronounced dead at 10:28 a.m, according to Monmouth County First Assistant Prosecutor Marc LeMieux.

It is the city’s first fatal shooting of the year, Lemieux confirmed.

Huntley lived in a residence on the same block, Lemieux said.

Lemieux is unable to comment on the extent of Huntley’s injuries at this time, or whether the incident is gang related, as the incident is still under active investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Scott Samis of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Major Crimes Bureau at 800-533-7443 or Asbury Park Police Det. Sgt. Steve Ramseur at 732-774-1300.

Alternatively, those who wish to remain anonymous can submit tips by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-671-4400. Tips can also be sent to Crime Stoppers by texting “MONMOUTH” plus the tip to 274637 [CRIMES].
