Six arrested after Saturday morning fight on Springwood Ave
Separate assault incident also reported outside of Porta restaurant
A fight broke out on Springwood Avenue early Saturday morning after police issued a summons to a man they allegedly spotted urinating in public.
At approximately 2:24 a.m. Asbury Park police responded to approximately 100 people involved in a fight in the 1500 block of Springwood Avenue, according to Asbury Park police Capt. Marshawn Love.
Before the call came in, officers on patrol in the area allegedly saw 28-year-old Mario Deshader urinating in public, Love said.
Deshader became “uncooperative” while police were issuing him a summons for the incident, Love said. When the officers began to arrest him a large crowd began to gather and a fight broke out, he said.
Mutual aid was called in from surrounding departments, he said.
Deshader was arrested for obstructing justice, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Five other individuals were arrested during the incident.
Knoryl Hammary, 24, was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and obstructing justice.
Steven Wilkerson, 27, was charged with possession of CDS [marijuana] under 50 grams and failure to disperse.
Sharell Rutledge, 28; Sharia Hill, 25; and Leterrah Grimes, 22, were all charged with failure to disperse.
At approximately 1:58 a.m. on the same evening, a male victim reported he was assaulted by 3 to 5 other male subjects after leaving Porta restaurant, located at 911 Kingsley Street, Love said. The man was subsequently treated for his injuries at Monmouth Medical Center, according to Love.
