Asbury police chase ends with overturned vehicle in Neptune
Asbury Park police tried to pull late model Mazda over on Spingwood Ave.
A Sunday night car chase that began in Asbury Park resulted in a motor vehicle crash in Neptune in which one car overturned and three individuals were sent to the hospital.
The incident started when Asbury Park police officers Michael Boone and John Sarno saw the driver of a late model Mazda commit a motor vehicle offense in the 1100 block of Springwood Avenue around 11 p.m., according to Capt. Marshawn Love, a spokesman for the department.
The driver of the Mazda initiated a pursuit through several streets in the city when he fled the officers, Love said.
Within one to three minutes after the chase began, the car crossed over into Neptune and crashed into another vehicle near the intersection of Monroe Avenue and Route 35 causing one of the vehicles to flip over, Love said.
The driver of the Mazda and two other males, the driver and passenger of the other vehicle involved in the crash, were all taken to a nearby hospital, Love said.
The Red Bank man was charged with eluding, possession of CDS [marijuana] under 50 grams, and issued six motor vehicle violations, Love said.
Love did not know the nature of the initial motor vehicle offense that caused the Red Bank man to give chase. Police are not releasing further information on the man at this time, he said.
No ages or names are available for the other men that were involved in the accident, Love said.
