Local runners raise $40,000 for the Boys and Girls Club
36 team members participated in four area races
For the second year in a row, a group of local runners raised $40,000 for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth County [BGCM] by participating in several shore-area races.
Team BGCM was led by Middletown resident Douglas Eagles,executive director of Boys & Girls Clubs of Monmouth County, and Shrewsbury resident Lisi Klus, development and communications associate, according to a release from Klus.
Eagles [shown above, third from left] and Klus organized the team of 36 runners who trained and fundraised together for several months leading up to the Asbury Park Half Marathon, New Jersey Marathon, Long Branch Half Marathon, and Half Marathon Relay. Each team member was asked to raise at least $1,035 to sponsor one Boys & Girls Club member for a year of after-school programming.
