Surf and Skate gets final approval from city council
Music festival returns to the city where it began May 17 and 18
The Asbury Park City Council gave final approval Wednesday for the 2014 Skate and Surf Festival to take place in Bradley Park May 17 and 18.
Skate and Surf Festival is a multi-day, youth culture event that combines music, competitive gaming, skateboarding and surfing.
The event will feature five total stages with Bands New Found Glory, Alkaline Trio, Midtown, Circa Survive, Saosin, Jake Miller and Kid Ink headlining.
The concert series is estimated to bring in anywhere between 5,000 to 6,000 people per day to the city, according to the special event application.
The city will be putting together a transportation plan with New Jersey Transit, similar to what was put into place for the 2012 Bamboozle Festival for the event, Tom Gilmour, the city’s special events coordinator, said at a previous council meeting.
Bradley Park is located between Fifth and Sunset Avenues just west of Convention Hall.
Festival promoters originally planned to have the 2014 event in Middletown but later sought to move the festival to Asbury Park, where it got its start in 2001. The city council granted initial approval for the event to move to the city but decided to finalize a contract with the event promoters before granting final approvals.
The history of the concert series saw it grow into the Bamboozle Festival managed by national concert promoter LiveNation and move up north to Giants Stadium for several years. Promoters brought Bamboozle back to Asbury Park in 2012 but announced shortly after the festival they would not bring it back the following year.
