Ocean Twp juvenile charged in weekend stabbing incident
Police credit community members for aiding with investigation
Cooperation from Asbury Park and Neptune Township residents helped police arrest a 15-year-old Neptune Township resident accused of stabbing an 18-year-old Asbury Park teen over the weekend, according to a news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
The Ocean Township teen faces charges of first degree attempted murder and second degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
The charges stem from an incident that occurred around 8 p.m., Sunday, May 25, when a fight occurred between two rival street gangs, the “600” and “Gangsters Move Silent” or “GMS” street gangs, in the 300 block of Fisher Avenue in Neptune Township.
During the fight, the 15-year-old boy stabbed his 18-year-old victim in the right side of his torso with a knife. The victim received a puncture wound to his lung and was treated at Jersey Shore University Medical Center. He was subsequently released after being treated.
A joint investigation by this Office and the Neptune Township Police Department with cooperation and assistance from people in the communities of Neptune and Asbury Park lead to the arrest of the juvenile.
He is currently being held in the Middlesex County Juvenile Detention Center.
If convicted of attempted Murder, the juvenile faces up to fours years in the custody of state Juvenile Justice Commission [JJC]. If convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon, he faces up to two years in the custody of the state JJC.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law.
