Within the coming weeks workers on behalf of Jersey Central Power & Light will start to trim tree canopies in sections of Asbury Park.

Specific trees have been targeted for trimming and residents who have targeted trees in front of or on their properties have begun to be notified. Some trees within the city right-of-way may be completely removed.

The work is being done as part of JCP&L’s transmission line maintenance program, City Manager John “Jack” Kelly said in an email to members of City Council.

Aspen Tree Expert Co., Inc, has been hired to perform the work.

Kelly was informed the last time tree canopies were cut several residents were angered by the extent of the work that was done to the canopies of mature Sycamore trees, but stated in the email that the city will “endeavor to work with Aspen to achieve the best results for the city” this time around.

Trees within the following blocks are scheduled to be trimmed. The list was compiled alphabetically by street name and does not reflect where the work will start:

1500 block of Bangs Avenue

900, 1000 and 1100 blocks of Munroe Avenue

600 block of Pine Street

600 block of Prospect Avenue

1000, 1100,  1500 and 1600 blocks of Sewall Avenue

10 [first block], 100 and 1300 blocks of Ridge Avenue

Aspen Tree Experts can be contacted at 732-928-5747. For more information about the tree work scheduled to be performed, visit www.firstenergygroup.com.
